How To Make Your Guests Feel At Home

How to make your guests feel at home
We love traveling and we love having friends and family stay with us when they come visit our area. One memory that sticks with me from my childhood was how at home my mother made guests feel. From getting the guest room all ready, to cooking special meals it was always exciting and I loved seeing how much care she put into it. Now, I try my best to make our guests feel extra welcome and comfortable when they come visit.

Whether it’s during the holiday season or just a friendly visit there are several ways to get your home ready. Here are our 3 ways to prep your home for guests:

How to make your guests feel at home
1. Prepare a guest bedroom or room with extra space for your guests to sleep in. In our house even though we have an extra bedroom it’s become sort of a craft room/kids room in one half while the other half is guest room. We are sure to clean it up before our guests come over. We’ve also added a Brittany Futon from the Novogratz in there to serve as a couch and bed. We recently added the ottoman which helps to make the room look more complete and adds extra comfort for our guests. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on any of this either, the pieces we chose are very affordable and high quality so I know we will get a lifetime of use out of them. I decorated the space with some fun items like the letter board (Wal-Mart), cactus lights (Pier 1) and a delicious smelling candle which is also from Pier 1.

2. Use soft and cozy bed sheets for extra comfort for your guests. Since we travel often we’ve started to notice a trend that a lot of hotels are starting to use softer, nicer feeling bed sheets and we love that! Our futon has a sheet set made specifically for it so we went with that and they are so comfortable! We love the colors and feel of both the sheet set and quilt and our guests have also commented about how comfortable the sleeping arrangement is- mission accomplished! You can see the matching sheet set here and the quilt here.

3. Leave out bath and face towels for your guests. This just makes it easier for everyone, they don’t need to ask you where they are and you can ensure you have enough clean towels ahead of time by leaving some out for them. My mom always did this and it’s so smart. I also suggest leaving some coffee mugs, sugar, tea bags etc… out for your guests so if they wake up before you they can help themselves in the kitchen.

As you can see, these are simple and inexpensive tips to prepare your home for guests. You don’t need to go overboard but these little touches certainly add the comforts of home for your guests and will be very much appreciated.
