Dinosaur Toddler Room

I’ve been looking forward to working on this big boy dinosaur bedroom for our oldest ever since we knew we were moving into this house! It wasn’t hard to find a ‘theme’ for it either, Blake loves dinosaurs and so that was an easy choice for him. We knew we wanted it to be colorful but neutral enough at the same time so he can continue to grow into it. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Between the dinosaur bedding and dinosaur accessories we think it turned out perfectly.

Our first challenge in his room was to come up with a solution for a large balcony opening that looked down to the dining room below. The obvious option was to drywall it and cover it that way but neither my husband or myself wanted to do that, mostly because then we’d have to repaint the white to make it all match and we are not fans of painting 😉 SO! My handy husband came up with a great idea to build a fully functional barn door and we couldn’t love it more. It’s very toddler proof and is only opened on special occasions such as Christmas morning when he woke up and we opened the doors to show him the tree and presents below. That is one of our first memories in this house and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

When you first walk into the room the main eye catcher is this amazing metal bed from the Novogratz. I was a little nervous to go with the turquoise color thinking that it may be too girly but after seeing it in the completed space I have no doubt it was the perfect choice. The dinosaur bedding is from Target and they have a ton of choices!

I am a major fan of sticking to a budget, so when looking for a nightstand I was lucky enough to get this hand me down piece and transformed it with a coat of pain and some new knobs.

Let’s talk about this star rug from Lorena Canals, it is so comfortable AND washable, making it the perfect piece for a toddler’s room. We have already had many nights where we stacked the pillows on the rug for story time. I’ve since washed the rug many times and it still looks and feels brand new.

Vinyl Wall Decals

So I may have mentioned in every single home remodel post i’ve done that I don’t like painting (you either love it or hate it, right!) so when I came across these vinyl decals I was one happy mommy. We chose the triangles, or as my son refers to them “dino spikes” (love his imagination!) and I think they add just the right amount of character and color to his room. They were easy to put on and the best part is that they are removable and will not damage the walls.

I love how the dino gallery wall came together. Most of the pieces are from our favorite small shops. We started with the dino clock from the Modern Moose and added pieces that complimented it.
