Living Room Renovation

I have partnered with Raymour & Flanigan and received product in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own.

I’m so excited to share our completed living room makeover with you today! I’ve once again partnered up with one of my favorite furniture stores, Raymour & Flanigan. I last worked with them on our master bedroom makeover and was so happy to partner with them again for our living room. We just celebrated 2 years in our home and this is one of the last rooms that we needed to update. In our previous house I was very much into brown and earthy colors, as you can tell from my previous home decor posts things are completely different in this house. I am drawn to neutral colors and white walls. I love the feeling of minimalism and have carried it into every room in our new home.

The tricky part about this living room is that it also serves as the playroom. We’ve slowly been kicking out all of the plastic toys but it seems like as soon as we let a box go there is a birthday or holiday and a whole new round of plastic toys enters our home. Working on this living room renovation really inspired us to once again clean out all of our plastic toys with the exception of dinosaurs and monster trucks. I can’t even describe the feeling of getting rid of all of that ‘stuff’, things are much less stressful when we don’t need to spend hours each week just cleaning up the extra toys and stuff around our house. So, with that as I took the photos of our updated living room I can’t believe how empty it looks! It’s truly been wonderful to have less in our home, I challenge each of you to decrease your stress by letting go of some of the “stuff” in your home.

Now back to the renovation. The single most important piece of furniture we needed to pick out was the couch. We knew we wanted a sectional and when we found this one at Raymour & Flanigan we were in love. It is seriously the most comfortable couch i’ve ever sat on. There hasn’t been a single person who has sat on our couch that didn’t comment on how amazingly comfortable it was. It comes in several configurations and we chose the 2 piece sectional for the perfect fit in our space. We then picked out the rest of the furniture in the room based on our neutral color scheme.

End Table / Table Lamp

Rug / Ottoman

I am usually pretty basic and plain when it comes to picking out rugs and had originally chosen an all gray rug but kudos to my husband for picking this one out. I love how it adds some life to the room while still be neutral enough!

World Highlights Map
I knew long before we started this room renovation that I wanted to hang some sort of map on the back wall (our boys have their mamas love of travel and adventure!)so I was so happy to see that Raymour & Flanigan had this beauty!

One of the most meaningful pieces in the room is this picture my Grandfather made shortly after he came to the US from Germany.

The kids have their own little reading nook in the room, right by the fireplace and it’s so cozy! The photos hanging above the chair are drawings made by our older son.

Godzilla and a photo of our house and family. He’s quite the little artist for a 4 year old 😉

One of our favorite things about our home is all of the fireplaces it has. There is seriously nothing better than a chilly day and a warm fire. We can’t wait to have the first fire of the season in our newly redecorated room.

The frame and vase are both lucky thrift store finds. The mantle is also a lucky local sale find.

Bookshelf / Floor Lamp

So this section of the room is really the boys’ playroom area. It used to be completely covered wall to wall with furniture full of toys. I’m 1 million times less stressed when I look at it now. The really amazing thing about getting rid of most of our toys is being able to teach our children to give to others and to see our children’s imaginations really grow with less plastic toys around.

I hope you’re able to gain some inspiration from our living room renovation and maybe even be inspired to declutter and destress this holiday season!

And just because this couch is beyond amazing here is another link to it. I promise you will thank me-most.comfortable.couch.ever.
