Monochrome Kids Room Before & After

It’s official, the crib has been packed away and their are no more babies in this house. The before and after nursery to big boy room change is finished! We decided to keep Leif’s room neutral to start, the decor that we chose is inspired for our family’s love of adventure and the outdoors. In stark contrast our older son’s room is full of color, you can see more of that here. My favorite thing about Leif’s room is how proud he is of it. Every time anyone comes to our house he insists on showing them his “new” room and it’s just the cutest thing.

Here is the before and after, nursery to big boy room change:

We chose to use a My Green Mattress for his room simply because it’s made of non toxic and organic materials. We spend a good portion of our lives laying on our mattress and it’s often overlooked in terms of toxicity in the home, but since we’ve been on a mission to rid our house of toxic things we’ve committed to using only green mattresses. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the mattress is. Another reason we chose this mattress is because they offer a 100 day night sleep trial, if you’re unhappy with the mattress you can exchange or return it for a full refund. Sometimes making big purchases online is intimidating but with their 100 night trial you don’t need to worry!

I am in love with this metal bed from DHP Furniture. We all have metal beds in our house now, there is just something about the way they look and how they can go with any type of furniture that I love so much! It’s also a very affordable option for furnishing a room.

When we were shopping in Target one day I decided to stroll through the kids bedding section and found the sheets and quilt on clearance. They were such a steal, I couldn’t believe how lucky I got! Leif saw the bean bag and was so sweet asking me if we could put it in his room and I think it’s the perfect touch. The medal and number plate are from Leif racing BMX this past summer. It’s the cutest thing to see a little 2 year old racing BMX. He’s so proud of his medals so we needed to hang them in his new room.

The vinyl wall dots are from Urban Walls. Since we want to keep all of our walls white in our home we like that you can add color and personality to a room through vinyl decals. They do not ruin the walls and can be removed easily.

We kept the dresser/changing table in his room since we figured it didn’t look too much like a changing table, plus sentimental value. The decor above his dresser came from a few different places. My favorite piece is the cross stitch from my sister, it reads “All good things are wild and free” which is one of my favorite quotes. The travel map print is from Cocostine Designs. I debated hanging that in our hallway since we have a travel corner where the boys keep track of their travels on a scratch off map, but I thought it fit in so perfectly in his bedroom instead. The adorable pastel rainbow stacker is from Sweet Whimsy Designs, one of our favorite toy makers.

I love the touches of metal we added to his wall, the “Be Wild” bear cutout is from Twisselman Trading Co.. They have so many cute things in their shop, a lot of them would be great gift ideas too! The “L” is from Hobby Lobby and I believe the deer head is as well. The “Be the Leader” print and “See the Good” print shown above his BMX medals are from Mama Said Tees. I love their shop because they are all about spreading the message of positivity.

I still can’t believe we’ve made the leap to a big boy bed, but it was time. With all of the traveling we’ve done in the past few months Leif became so used to sleeping in his own bed that it just seemed like a natural time to make the switch and he’s done so well with it. I still rock him a bit before laying him down and that’s just the best. I hope he lets me do that for at least another year.
